Aubrey Plaza talks Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is still filming in Toronto, but some of its stars have already seen some early footage. Aubrey Plaza, who plays the live-action incarnation of Julie Powers, wrapped two weeks ago so she could go back to work on her NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation, but even with principal photography still underway, she praised the comic-book adaptation.

"It's really going to be the best movie, I think, ever," Plaza said in an exclusive interview last week at the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Pasadena, Calif. "Ever. I think it's a possibility. I saw 20 minutes of it, and it blew my mind. It's crazy."

Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead) is directing the adaptation of Bryan Lee O'Malley's comic book, in which Pilgrim (Michael Cera) must battle the seven ex-boyfriends of his dream girl (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). Plaza sees the combination of elements building to a promising result.

"It's based on a comic book, so it's stylized in that way, but it's like a combination of a teen slacker comedy mixed with a crazy ninja action film," Plaza continued. "It's Edgar Wright, so it's like Hot Fuzz style. Everything's quick. It's going to really blow people's minds, I think."

Powers plays a snide significant other of Pilgrim's bandmate. Of course, she wouldn't be using some of that sarcasm on us now, would she? "Well, there's always a hint of sarcasm," Plaza admitted. "I don't want to give away what's sarcasm and what's not sarcasm. That's kind of my thing, so I've got to keep that going."

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is due out in 2010.
