Is Watchmen's Jackie Earle Haley risking his career by joining TV's Human Target?

Watchmen's Jackie Earle Haley, who co-stars in Fox's upcoming series Human Target, told reporters that he is excited but nervous about the idea of taking on a television show in addition to playing Freddy Krueger in the upcoming Nightmare on Elm Street remake.

"A little bit, from the standpoint that it kind of takes me out of the game," Haley said in a group interview last Thursday on the Chicago set of Nightmare. "But it takes me out of the game by being in the game."

On Human Target, Haley plays Guerrero, adviser to Christopher Chance (Mark Valley), a bodyguard and detective who adopts the identity of his clients when they are targeted for assassination. The show is based on the DC Comics series created by Len Wein and Carmine Infantino.

Haley said he was looking forward to the challenge of acting on an ongoing basis. "The TV series, I'm really excited about that," Haley said. "It should be a real fun kind of throwback to '80s action films, like Die Hard and stuff, and kind of the weekly action show of the week."

What about his character? "What's cool about it is that it's a different type of character," he said. "And I'm also kind of really looking forward to acting every day for a period. I think it might [help] as an actor to grow, and a way to become a better actor is to work in that environment and to work every day for months. It could be a really good experience as an actor."

Human Target launches at midseason with a preview between the NFC Divisional Playoff Game and the premiere of 24 on Jan. 17 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
