Mickey Rourke wrestles with Marvel over rumored Iron Man 2 role

Mickey Rourke—currently the odds-on favorite to walk off with the Best Actor trophy at Sunday's Academy Awards ceremony for his performance in The Wrestler—crushed hopes last night that he'd be making an appearance in Iron Man 2, according to a report today in New York magazine.

Marvel had reportedly offered the actor $250,000 last month for his rumored role as the villain in the sequel to 2008's hit film. A reporter for New York caught up with Rourke in Manhattan's Bryant Park during designer Domenico Vacca's show held as part of Fashion Week to ask the star whether there had been any progress in his negotiations for a bigger paycheck.

When questioned, Rourke responded with a grim, "Right now, we're not doing Iron Man 2."

Budgetary issues had already caused the studio to replace Iron Man's Terrence Howard with Don Cheadle, who'll be appearing in the sequel in the role of Col. James "Rhodey" Rhodes.
