Dakota Fanning confirmed to reporters that she's talking about taking on the role of an aristocratic vampire in the upcoming Twilight sequel New Moon.

"It's definitely possible," said in a group interview about the prospects of joining New Moon in the role of Jane.

Since the rumored casting news first broke on Wednesday, Twilight message boards have been abuzz with reaction to the news. Fans seem generally pleased at the prospect.

We had the chance to speak to the young actress on Saturday at the Push press day in Los Angeles to confirm all the speculation. As talk turned from Push to Twilight, Fanning's giddy enthusiasm was unmistakable. She smiled widely and giggled a bit at the enthusiastic questions from press.

"I really hope it will work out," Fanning said. "We'll see. It would be really fun to be a part of that."

Fanning is a fan of the book series and was reading it before being offered the part. "I haven't read all four yet," she said. "I'm definitely a fan. I'm a big fan of the actors in the film, and to be a part of that would be a great privilege."

The character of Jane is a Volturi vampire from Italy with a twin brother named Alec. She is described as having an "angelic" face. There's no word yet on who might fill the role of the brother if Fanning does land the role. New Moon is slated to begin filming in the next few weeks for a Nov. 20 release.
