The Dark Knight continues to collect the accolades on its way to the Oscar nominations on Jan. 22: Today, Dark Knight helmer Christopher Nolan landed a Directors Guild of America nomination, the wire services reported.

The winner of the DGA award, which will be handed out on Jan. 31, often presages the winner of the best-director Oscar. The Oscar ceremony takes place on Feb. 22.

David Fincher also got a DGA nomination for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

The megahit Batman sequel has been gaining momentum for key prizes at the Oscars: It was also nominated for a Producers Guild award, whose winner more often than not also wins the best-picture Oscar. Nolan also has a screenplay nomination from the Writers Guild of America for The Dark Knight. And the movie swept the People's Choice Awards this week.

To capitalize on the awards-season buzz, Warner Brothers will re-release The Dark Knight in theaters and IMAX on Jan. 23, the day after the Oscar nominations are announced.
